Courses
Studio-based one-day courses are available in drawing, mixed paint or textile media, batik and screen print. The workshops are aimed at all age groups and ability levels, and run from 10.00am until 3.00pm, including a light home-made lunch. A maximum of four participants can be accommodated at any one time. All the courses are individually arranged and held in the studio barn at Townfoot in Elsdon.
COURSE STRUCTURE
Each course is based on an experimental and flexible approach to the use of media. At the start of each class explanations are given of the media and techniques to be used and advice about how to work from drawings and photographs. Possible starting points are provided, including collections of plant material, shells, stones, views of the garden and the landscape around it as well as photographs of landscape details. During the courses participants are encouraged to develop their skills and to present their work in a finished form such as a mounted piece or as pages in a sketchbook.
DRAWING COURSE
Various graphic techniques are illustrated using a range of media including soft pencils, charcoal, conte, pastels, fine liner and pen and ink.
MIXED MEDIA PAINT COURSE
Several mixed media techniques are shown using acrylic paints with tissue paper, wax resist, cling film and textured surfaces.
BATIK COURSE
Batik techniques using melted wax and cold-water dyes on calico, cotton and silk are demonstrated and explained.
PRINTING COURSE
Demonstrations are given of print techniques including mono printing, block printing, stenciling and wax on screen, using paper and fabrics .
MIXED MEDIA TEXTILE COURSE
Methods of creating interesting textile surfaces are shown involving materials such as bondaweb, powdered glue, and angelina on different types of paper and fabrics including silk, calico and felt. These can be worked into with an embellisher as well as hand and machine stitching using threads, ribbons, petals, beads, wool and wire.
Course fees are £45 per person. Lunch, tea and coffee are included as well as art materials, a sketchbook and card mounts for finished pieces.
